Okay, here's a basic rundown of what your character could find out through the Angel chatrooms. Depending on your characters (ie: How obsessive they are ^_~) they could know any or all of this information.
1.) Angel and Spike. Anyone who goes on the forums would know who they are, the two vampires with souls. Those who have been in the on-line circle for awhile would know Angel came first and Spike recently got his soul.
2.) The Shan-shu Prophecy. Those who spend a medium amount of time on-line would know about this. They'd probably have read the translated version, except, of course, for the obsessive ones who know the original language. This, however, would be very few. Also, any knowledge of these languages must be approved by the mods. People who have been at it awhile know Angel was long thought to be the subject of this prophecy and Spike's the new-comer. Recent on-line junkies can think Spike's the one mentioned, or, well, so can anyone. Basically, it's your choice whether to have your character vote for Spike or Angel.
3.) Conner. The medium time spenders would also know about the prophecy that talks about Conner being born to two vampires...Or, well, rather, they would, if their memories hadn't been erased. So, right now, no one knows about him, but if the memory thing is ever lifted, then they'd know.
4.) Cordelia and the Beast. Everyone would know something weird went on a little while ago in LA, something that had to do with the Vampire with a Soul.
Only the most dedicated would know that his connection to the Powers that Be was actually possessed by the source of that problem. The obsessed would know that Angel was the reason this Evil thing was defeated, although they wouldn't really know how, or exactly what said evil was.
5.) Angelus and William the Bloody. Very few people would know the full of the two vampires before they got their souls. Casual to medium on-line goers would know that Angel was Angelus and Spike was William the Bloody, and both were very evil. Obsessive people would know just how bad the two were, although they wouldn't know every detail of their past lives.
6.) The rest of the Fang Gang.
Fred: She's known to everyone as one of the students at UCLA who mysteriously disappeared. Medium on-liners would know she's the only one that returned.
Wesley: He's known to medium on-line goers as an ex-Watcher, now part of Angel's group.
Lorne: He's known to all as the owner of Caritas, and to the obsessive as a demon with a connection to The Powers that Be.
Gunn: Known only to the obsessive, as the leader of a gang of street-tough, vampire-hunting teenagers who hooked up with Angel, and then turned
uber-lawyer due to a chip placed in his head.
Cordelia: They would know she's Angel's link to the Powers That Be, and everything previously mentioned about her involvement in the apocolypse.
Relationships: This, they wouldn't know about. The on-line goers would know only the major events, the big stuff that effects the world. This isn't like a show, there's not a camera following them around. On-liners would know only what the unknown people/things who run the sites can find out from their underground sources and such. The only relationship the on-liners would know about is Angel and Cordelia, due to the whole Beast/Jasmine thing last year.
7.) Slayers. Medium goers would know about the Slayer, obsessive ones would know that there are now thousands of Slayers, due to Buffy. They would know Buffy's name, and that she had a loving relationship with Angel. They'd also know that Spike got his soul out of love for her, but not the circumstances of it (that he was really trying to get the chip removed, he battled for it, etc.)
Three final things, guys:
Casual on-line goers are free for anyone to app.
Medium on-line goers are free as well, but require a bit higher level of app.
Obsessive on-line goers are the College Kids, and right now no one else. You can app one, but it probably won't get approved.
